WOMEN IN REVOLT!ART AND ACTIVISM IN THE UK 1970-1990 at the National Galleries of Scotland: Modern Two
25th May 2024 - 26th January 2025
This exhibition is the first of its kind – a major survey of feminist art by over 100 women artists working in the UK. It explores how networks of women used radical ideas and rebellious methods to make an invaluable contribution to British culture. Through their creative practices, women’s liberation was forged against the backdrop of extreme social, economic and political change.
Interviews

Anjalie Dalal-Clayton (University of the Arts London) in conversation with Simone Alexander (artist)
This conversation took place as part of Cultivating Subversion Through Feminist Contemporary Art Collecting, May 17-18, 2023, at Edinburgh College of Art, supported through SGSAH Cohort Development Funding. Through case study presentations, roundtable conversations, and discussion sessions, Cultivating Subversion Through Feminist Contemporary Art Collecting sought to address urgent issues related to feminist modes of collecting: Is a feminist art collecting practice possible? What kinds of material and ideological infrastructure are necessary for feminist collections to exist? How do we tackle the biases and epistemological violence inherent in existing collections and collecting frameworks? How can we build future art collections (and institutions) differently?

YOU CAN’T EAT PRESTIGE: WOMEN, REINVENTION AND THE ARCHIVAL TRACE with the Tate
CONVERSATION BETWEEN JANICE CHEDDIE, SIMONE ALEXANDER AND SYMRATH PATTI - In this conversation, Janice Cheddie is joined by artists Symrath Patti and Simone Alexander to trace the contributions of women of colour to the creative ecology of the Black Arts Movement. Reflecting on their own interrupted trajectories, they question continuity and the oeuvre as requirements for a valid and comprehensible artistic practice. Download an edited transcript and watch a screen recording of the original conversation from 10 December 2021 below.
